FIRST Philippine Industrial Corporation cleared in Makati seepage incident

FIRST Philippine Industrial Corporation (FPIC) has been cleared by the Department of Energy in the July gas seepage incident in Brgy. Bangkal, Makati. According to Secretary Jose Rene Almendras, the DOE “agreed with the results of an investigation carried out by the local government of Makati on the…gas seepage in Basement 4 of West Tower condominium.”

FPIC had responded to a report of seepage of petroleum- like fluid in the basement of the condominium on July 12. Despite its conviction that the pipeline was intact, the company excavated 15 sections of the pipeline in front of the building with the help of equipment and personnel of sister firm First Balfour Inc. over several days. FPIC’s 117-kilometer pipeline carries different fuel products from the Batangas port to the Pandacan depot in Manila.
