The Lopez Museum and Library
On May 18 and 20, the Lopez Museum and Library will open its doors for two days of free museum admission in this year’s International Museum Day (IMD) commemoration.
Thematic tours featuring the current exhibition Pauses of Possibility and select materials from the library collection in relation to the IMD theme, “Museums and Contested Histories: Saying the Unspeakable in Museums,” will be available on May 20.
“Museums and Contested Histories: Saying the Unspeakable in Museums” highlights the continued relevance of museums and other cultural institutions as sites of engagement, mediation and possibly even reconciliation when coming to terms with contested moments in histories.
This attempt to activate museums as spaces that allow their audiences to envision a more peaceable society is grounded on encouraging a more open stance in addressing what is deemed “unspeakable.”
Tours will be at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. (Story/Photos by: Thea Garing and Yna Musico)
