SKYathon now sponsors more than 3,000 square meters of coral reef cover SKYathon, the first destination run in the country, went to Boracay days before the island was closed down in order to help rehabilitate the coral reef off the coast of Balinghai Island.
A 15-person delegation led by SKY Airtime Marketing head Jay Redondo, senior marketing manager Delbert Santos II and RunRio managing partner Andrew Neri pushed on with the scheduled replanting.
Santos said they were happy to continue SKY’s commitment to regrowing the reef cover of Boracay.
“We support all the efforts for total rehabilitation of the island, not only the beach part, but…the marine life as well, as this contributes to the total state of the whole island,” he added.
This was echoed by Neri, who said: “With the thrust on the propagation of ecological balance, RunRio supports SKY by spearheading this endeavor… We will continue to work with SKY to rehabilitate Boracay Island in the near future and, hopefully, this effort can inspire other islands to do the same.”
The planted corals add to the 3,000 square meters of reef coverage already sponsored by SKY.
SKYathon is the first beach run in the country. The ninth run was scheduled for April this year, but organizers prioritized their commitment to the environmental care of Boracay.
