The “Rose for a Cause” project of Energy Development Corporation (EDC) began as a simple, hassle-free way to buy flowers for loved ones on Valentine’s Day. It became a favorite fundraising activity among employees in the EDC head office and is now on its fourth year.
This year, the project raised almost P30,000. The employees decided to use the funds to help the families displaced by the January 2018 eruption of Mayon Volcano in Bicol.
The collection was used for the community outreach program of EDC’s Bacon-Manito Geothermal Business Unit (BGBU) in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) at the Muladbucad Elementary School in Guinobatan, Albay in March.
Volunteers from BGBU, the PRC and the EDC Disaster Preparedness and Response Unit organized fun games, distributed food packs and extended other in-kind assistance. The PRC also conducted a short session to educate the attendees on personal health and hygiene.
