It is important for children to learn about environmental awareness as early as possible.

What are the different ways we can teach them to value the environment?

Aside from the usual lecture, I suggest one of the practical ways of teaching them environmental awareness is to have them join child-friendly tree-planting activities.

This way, the idea is inculcated in their thoughts through a fun and proactive activity.

Environmental awareness can make it possible, every child knows how to love their environment has to make an advantage for catching learning process. This is suitable for planning to prevent the global warming. Planting trees is the most recommendable.

Teaching children starts from the home. Early on parents should teach them no to scatter or throw trash elsewhere than the trash bin. Look for a trash bin or put it in your pocket if possible or just hold it for awhile until you find a suitable place to throw trash. Children who throw candy wrapper, plastic, or anything else out the jeepney or bus or even cars are ill-manered and are not taught by their parents. Start from the home and the habit will be brought along elsewhere as the child grows.

I believe that there should be a partnership between the home and the school in teaching kids to save Pasig River. The school can initiate efforts like bringing children to a field trip or boat ride along Pasig River but a parent or guardian should be part of the trip, too. When that happens, what is being taught to the child during the trip will also be learned by the parent and will be applied at home.

It's good to teach our children environmental awareness at an early age but let us not forget also that we must do what we teach them. It's the adults who are polluting the rivers and not the children.

Teaching our children with the right deeds while we are doing the opposite will just make them confused.
