The two-day event, which was attended by more than 170 members, tackled the latest developments in corporate governance, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and tax regulations and risk management, international financial reporting standards (IFRS) and tax updates.
The seminars addressed issues and concerns related to the latest activities being done in corporate governance and risk management; the most recent regulations of the SEC and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on financial reporting and tax, respectively; and new accounting standards that became effective starting in 2012.
The speakers during the two-day workshops were Atty. Ma. Gracia Casals-Diaz, SEC general accountant who gave updates on the SEC’s financial reporting regulations, corporate governance and the results of their evaluation of the 2011 audited financial statements; and Janette Cruz, chief of the Large Taxpayers’ Assistance Division 1 of the BIR, who talked about the recently issued tax regulations.
PWC Isla Lipana & Co. partners and directors Atty. Carlos Carado II, Carlos Hilario Mateo and Joey Roy Navarro discussed updates and common assessment issues on various taxes, while SGV & Co. partners Leo Matignas, Wilson Tan, Noel Rabaja, Editha Estacio, Ma. Madeira Vestil and Vivian Cruz-Ruiz talked about risk management, IFRS and tax.
This year marks the 13th year of the Comptrollers’ Circle. Through the years, it has continuously aimed to maintain a high quality of financial reporting in the Lopez Group and to promote work-life balance among its members. Its major achievements include the development of a uniform chart of accounts and accounting policies and the issuance of an updated planning and control manual for the Lopez Group.
On December 17, 2012, the Comptrollers’ Circle will have its general assembly, again at the ELJ Communications Center. This group-wide conference is organized annually to update the comptrollers on current developments on relevant topics outside the sphere of accounting and financial reporting and to assist them in their personal development. This event will also coincide with the Christmas party aimed at fostering fellowship and camaraderie.
