In the quiet moments of this festive season, as we wrap gifts and prepare for joyous gatherings, my thoughts often wander to the children whose futures we are helping to shape through the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI). It is the time of year that reminds us of the warmth of giving and the time of hope, reflection and looking forward.
For 24 years, KCFI has been a beacon of educational innovation and inspiration, igniting the minds and aspirations of countless Filipino children. Our journey began with a simple vision: to help improve the lives of the Filipino through quality education accessible to every child, regardless of their circumstances. Year after year, we’ve endeavored to turn this vision into a reality, adapting to evolving landscapes and unique challenges each year.
Through our diverse and dynamic programs, we have consistently strived to enhance learning experiences, ensuring that every child has access to the tools and knowledge they need to flourish. As we pause to reflect on our remarkable journey, it becomes abundantly clear that our unwavering dedication to education and development has not only transformed individual lives but has also helped foster the collective growth and development of communities.
In 2023, from the rural classrooms in distant barrios to the bustling urban schools, community learning centers and child development centers, KCFI has been a guiding light in the development journey of many young Filipinos.
Our video lessons, notably the “Wikaharian” and “Ready, Set, Read!” series, have been transforming language skills acquisition. “Wikaharian,” for instance, has even helped at-risk Grade 1 learners to immediately learn developmentappropriate basics of reading comprehension and oral language skills in Filipino. “Ready, Set, Read!” has for its part helped enhance Grade 1 English oracy and literacy. Through animated videos, graphics, songs and stories, and support programs for teachers, these interventions have instilled a newfound enthusiasm and engagement among learners. The projects’ successes—showing marked improvements in interest, participation and grades of learners and enhanced engaging teaching methodologies—are testaments to how we have been helping improve education.
After a hiatus of three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we brought back our Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies (LEEP) program and trained on-site teachers and principals for schools in areas of operation of First Gen Corporation—Batangas City, Nueva Ecija, Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte and Camarines Sur. We conducted our early childhood development (ECD) trainings in two pilot communities, Lobo in Batangas and Burgos in Ilocos Norte. These training rollouts showed very encouraging results. We hope that with the participants’ renewed inspiration and newly acquired skills, they will improve the learning outcomes of their learners.
In Lobo and Burgos, the transformative impact of our ECD training program underscored the value of creating a warm, responsive and engaging environment, integrating critical aspects like health, nutrition and safety into ECD. The holistic approach in the ECD training equipped care providers with vital knowledge and kindled a passion for fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for children in their formative years.
As we celebrate this season, let us extend our warmth to schools and learning centers by gifting Knowledge Channel Portable Media Libraries (KC PMLs) and/or Knowledge TVs. The KC PML, loaded with thousands of videos for ECD, kindergarten, Grades 1-12 and the alternative learning system, opens a universe of engaging learning for children, especially those in remote areas. By donating KC PMLs and/or Knowledge TVs this Christmas and into the New Year, you can make a significant difference in the journey of countless children. These resources not only offer high-quality learning materials but also ensure that education remains accessible in regions with limited internet connectivity. This season, donate to the Knowledge Channel Foundation through BPI Acct. No. 0201-0409-14. Learn more about our initiatives at knowledgechannel.org.
Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2024, Kapamilya.
