Lopez Group recently joined the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) CSR Expo 2014, themed “Commit, Strengthen, Rebuild.”
Through the coordination of Lopez Group Foundation Inc., and with the support of Energy Development Corp., ABS-CBN, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) and First Philippine Holdings Corp., a unified booth with the message “Nagkakaisang Kapamilya, Lopez Group” was set up for the three-day exhibit at the Glorietta 2 activity center in Makati.
Unlike in the past years, the LCF expo had its activities spread throughout July. This year’s education committee forum, which had the theme “Towards More Strategic CSR in Education,” was held in Ortigas on July 25 and featured Lopez Group chairman emeritus Oscar M. Lopez (OML).
In his speech, OML discussed saying: “The problem with CSR in a country like ours is that it is never enough… we are not even scratching the surface of our massive problems. With half our population of 100 million living in dire poverty, every peso doled out as traditional charity or philanthropy or CSR is quickly absorbed… like a drop of water in a parched land.”
The Lopez Group is active in LCF, with KCFI president Rina Lopez Bautista serving as a member of the LCF board and chair of the education committee, and Lopez Museum and Library’s Marga Villanueva as chair of the arts and culture committee. (Dulce Festin-Baybay)
