Known for its long-running flagship project called Operation: Barrio Schools, FCCCII will construct five classroom buildings with two classrooms and comfort rooms each in areas identified by Operation Sagip.

“Initially, the target areas include Mindoro, Sulu, Pampanga and Zamboanga,” said Earl Bacabac, Operation Sagip Relief and Rehabilitation head.

Josine Reyes, ALKFI Project and Donor Management head/chief of staff, said Operation Sagip aims to build classrooms in calamity-hit areas.

“This is one way where we are able to allow the children to rebuild their life again, their stability. So, we want to provide them more classrooms that are conducive to studying,” she added.

Domingo Yap, president of FFCCCII, shared that the construction of the classroom buildings was made possible by donations from their officers and other members.

“The Filipino-Chinese community wants to share their blessings with our public school students,” Yap said.

Since 1961, Operation: Barrio Schools has turned over 5,500 classroom buildings or more than 11,000 classrooms nationwide. On the other hand, Operation Sagip has completed more than 500 classrooms, including those in typhoon Yolanda-stricken areas, since 2007. (Story/Photos by: Althea Cahayag)
