Over a thousand public school students in key cities recently received the gift of reading from the “BOOKas Palad” program, a SKY employees-led nationwide fundraising initiative now on its second year.

Through the program, SKY was able to raise funds from its employees who made generous donations and even volunteered to do a storytelling session in the schools where the books were turned over.

SKY Cable president and COO March Ventosa was joined by Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) president Rina Lopez-Bautista and SKY employees in a ceremonial turnover of Adarna storybooks and their video counterparts at Bago Bantay Elementary School in Quezon City.

“It warms our hearts that we are able to give these children the gift of reading as they now have a book they can take home and read, which for some kids might be their very first children’s book,” Ventosa said.

“Together with the audiovisual materials from Knowledge Channel Foundation, the reading materials should be able to offer the students a stronger learning experience, motivating them to study better. The gift of SKY to the students will enable them to get closer to their dreams,” he added.

KCFI donated a portable media library to Bago Bantay Elementary School to support the reading of the children.

“Together with the takehome reading materials that SKY employees have provided, our audiovisual tools offer students a stronger learning experience, motivating them to study better, enabling them to get closer to their dreams,” Lopez-Bautista said.

Grade two students excitedly received the books and listened to storytelling sessions led by SKY employee volunteers.

Aside from Bago Bantay, donations were also made to public schools in Metro Manila, Laguna, Baguio, Iloilo and Davao.
