ENERGY Development Corporation (EDC) partnered with the city government of Sorsogon to enhance the community’s emergency preparedness and disaster response.
EDC conducted a three-day training exercise on all-hazards community emergency response and austere environment rescue. Members of the barangay health emergency response team from host barangays and representatives from the Sorsogon Provincial and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection attended the training.
EDC’s safety and emergency management department, led by Dr. Ted Esguerra, Simforiano Rivera and Gerard Natividad, conducted the training on providing community-based emergency preparedness and humanitarian action services.
Gina Pascual, EDC vice president and head of corporate support functions, underscored the importance of disaster preparedness and emergency response efforts. She noted how it plays an important role in raising public awareness of calamities.
“EDC always desires to help and extend support to LGUs, to the CDRRMO and other stakeholders through our corporate social responsibility programs and initiatives as part of our mission of forging collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future,” she said.
Esguerra and his team familiarized the trainees with the components of the emergency medical services system and how to perform primary and secondary assessments, basic trauma life support, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation with an automated external defibrillator.
Trainees were also taught austere medical practices for trauma emergencies and surface water rescue techniques.
The renewable energy leader, in addition, signed a memorandum of agreement with the CDRRMO for the installation of the latter’s very high-frequency repeater system at the EDC radio tower facility. This will allow the local government to strengthen and improve radio communication within the 64 barangays of Sorsogon City as part of the CDRRMO’s DRRM plan.
