In celebration of Philippine Environment Month, Oscar M. Lopez (OML) Center opens registration for its mobile filmmaking competition—Mga Kwento ng Klima (MKK) Short Films 2024.

Open to professional and independent Filipino filmmakers, MKK Shorts 2024 aims to generate five-minute local climate stories highlighting the impacts and risks of climate change on various sectors, including local communities, agriculture and fisheries, forestry, biodiversity, freshwater resources, ecosystems and sustainable development.

Interested participants shall submit a pitch deck for the climate film that they will be producing. Films about the environment, biodiversity and other related topics with no climate lens will not be accepted. They must be in live-action film narrative format aligned with the following genres: drama, comedy, musical, action, suspense, historical or science fiction.

New to the MKK Shorts competition, OML Center will provide production seed grants to qualifying MKK Shorts 2024 participants. The top 15 pitches will receive a seed grant of P30,000. Toward the end of the competition, the final top 10 films will receive an additional P70,000 grant.

The top 15 pitches passing the preliminary screening will be required to attend the competition’s general assembly and the monthlong Climate Film Lab.

Final film entries must be submitted by Nov. 4, 2024. The film entry must be submitted in digital copy using MOV, MP4 format; high-definition quality, minimum of 1920×1080 pixels (1080p); and with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

On top of seed grants, the top 10 films will be invited to the film screening and awarding ceremony in November. The films will compete for the following prizes: Best Film, P100,000; second place, P70,000; and third place, P50,000. Special awards will also be given to receive P10,000 each.
