Vegan and vegetarian dishes even meat lovers will enjoy

Twitter

Corner Tree CafeCorner Tree CafeBeing the lone vegetarian or vegan in the group can be frustrating, especially when it comes to planning soial gatherings.

Fortunately for plant eaters with omnivore friends, restaurants suh as The Wholesome Table and Corner Tree Cafe have come up with exciting and extensive menu options that make healthy eating a bit more accessible and, dare we say, more palatable.

So next time you find yourself in the middle of deciding where to eat, try a different kind of “vegging out” at these restaurants:

The Wholesome Table

R2 Level

“…We wanted to help people [have] a healthy lifestyle and stick to their resolutions,” says owner and founder Bianca Elizalde after launching new menu items at The Wholesome Table. Dubbed Wholesome Beginnings, the menu features delicious plant-based fare that inspires clean eating.

The Wholesome Table serves some of the most colorful and appetizing organic meals you’ll ever come across. Pro tip: you can always ask them to serve vegan, gluten-free or nut-free versions of these dishes.

Chakra salad, as the name implies, opens up your chakras with antioxidant-rich greens, duck egg, mushrooms, beets and almonds drizzled with a homemade hibiscus kombucha dressing.

The immune booster soup calms inflammation and helps fight off infections with garlic, ginger, olive oil, turmeric powder, lemon juice, spinach, kale, coconut cream, broccoli, goji berry, chia, sunflower, flax, sesame seeds and Greek yogurt.

The yogi bowl is an Indianinspired vegan mix of cauliflower, turmeric powder, coriander, cumin, olive oil, onions, garlic, three kinds of mushrooms, organic tofu, cherry tomatoes, red chili, coconut cream and leeks.

New detox juices and superfood smoothies have also made their way to the menu. All of these are dairy-free, vegan, raw and loaded with nutrients.

Corner Tree Cafe

R3 Level

Tucked behind Power Plant Cinemas, surrounded by fitness centers and a spa is Corner Tree Cafe, a quaint cafe that’s warm and welcoming.

“It is a place that serves simple, down-to-earth, good food and also offers great desserts, coffee, tea, smoothies, wine, beer and spirits,” says owner Chiqui Mabanta.

Some of our favorites include: Spinach feta croquettes, P390 Start with feta cheese, red rice and herbs served with mint organic yogurt sauce and homemade harissa on the side.

Arroz a la Cubana, P270

Flavorful minced tofu, tomatoes, green olives and raisins with fried bananas (fried egg optional), with red rice.

Baked tofu walnut burger, P375

Veggie burger in a whole wheat bun with mint yogurt sauce or vegan mayo served with sweet potato fries or greens.

Adsilog, P230

Adobong tofu, sinangag,itlog a.k.a.fried tofu marinated in vinegar and soy sauce drizzled with EVOO, with egg and garlic fried rice.

Salted caramel chocolate torte, P210/slice

Prize-winning dessert.

Corner Tree Cafe’s naturally flavorful meat alternatives are a nice middle ground for both herbivores and carnivores in your dining group. Aside from serving dishes that are familiar, there’s something about the cafe’s cozy atmosphere that isn’t intimidating to those who haven’t gone completely meat-free. (Story/Photos by: (Jannine Sy)
