Regina "Ging" ReyesABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs head Regina “Ging” Reyes was recognized by her alma mater, University of the Philippines, during an awarding ceremony held over the weekend.
The University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) Distinguished Alumni Awards, which recognizes individuals for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields, was held last June 21 at the UP Diliman campus.
Reyes was honored for her work in the field of communication, along with Prof. Yvonne Chua and Dr. Susanah Lily Mendoza.
Reyes, who obtained a BA Broadcast Communication degree from UP, joined ABS-CBN in 1986. She rose from production assistant for News, executive producer and head writer of “The World Tonight,” and director for news production before becoming North America News bureau chief.
The rest of the awardees include Ivan Henares for culture and the arts, Dr. Alfredo Mahar Lagmay for disaster mitigation, Rep. Isagani Amatong for good governance, Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza for law and judiciary, and Amb. Virgilio Reyes for public service, among many others.
Department of Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo was named most distinguished alumnus by the UPAA for 2014, while Dr. Manuel Alba, Engr. Claudio Altura and Dr. Jesusa Bagan-Lara were given lifetime achievement awards.
Distinguished service awardees, meanwhile, include Dr. Mimosa Cortez-Ocampo, Dr. Eric Talens, and the UP Singing Ambassadors founded and conducted by Prof. Edgardo Manguiat. (Story/photo by Kane Choa)
