Here's how the Philippines fared in its fight against COVID-19 in the past couple of weeks.

June 30

At the five-month mark since its first case, the country records 1,080 new cases to push its total past the 37,000 mark, while the number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 reaches 10,233

July 1

The Philippines adds 999 patients to increase its total to 38,511 confirmed COVID19 cases

The general community quarantine (GCQ) in Metro Manila is extended for another two weeks; also placed under GCQ are Benguet, Rizal and Cavite in Luzon and eight areas in the Visayas

July 3

With 1,531 new infections, the Philippines logs a total of 40,336 COVID-19 cases; 400 recoveries tow the country past the 11,000 mark to 11,073

July 4

The country slips past the 41,000 mark to 41,830 after recording 1,494 new infections

The World Health Organization revises its chronicle of the beginnings of COVID-19 to reflect that it was informed of the pneumonia of unknown origin by its own office in China

July 5

The Philippines records 44,254 COVID-19 cases overall after adding 2,434 new patients; 489 individuals get well from the disease, hiking recoveries to 11,942

July 6

The total jumps to 46,333 as 2,099 new cases are logged; six fatalities increase the death toll to 1,303, while 243 new recoveries are reported

July 7

COVID-19 now infects 47,873 Filipinos after 1,540 new cases are tallied; those who have recovered from the virus rise to 12,386

July 8

Breaking the July 5 record, 2,539 new cases of COVID-19 bump up the national total to 50,359

July 9

A total of 1,396 infections are reported, nudging the number of confirmed cases to 51,754

July 10

Confirmed COVID-19 cases reach 52,914 following the addition of 1,233 patients

July 11

There are now 54,222 cases in the Philippines after an additional 1,387 patients contract the disease; the 807 new recoveries, meanwhile, are a new record after July 5’s 489

July 13

The figures for July 12, released the day after, indicate that there are 2,124 new COVID-19 cases; this swells the country’s total to 56,259

July 14

Eighty-eight patients are added to the recovered list to bring up the total to 20,459; on the other hand, confirmed cases are at 57,545 after 634 new cases are reported

July 15

The Philippines reports 1,392 new COVID-19 cases to bring the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 58,850

Metro Manila remains under GCQ until July 31, alongside Laguna, Cavite and Rizal in Luzon
