Philippine Quill AwardsThe International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines launches the 2010
Philippine Quill Awards with three new top awards honoring the most outstanding works in communication management, communication skills, and communication creative divisions.
The best three works will be selected from the roster of winners in the 27 categories of the Quill Awards.
This innovation on the Philippine Quill Awards supports the global thrusts of IABC Philippines, the first chapter established outside of North America. Begun in 1970, IABC is a professional network of about 15,000 business communication professionals in over 80 countries. Philippine leaders have held regional posts in the organization: Elpi Cuna, Bong Osorio, Rey Anthony David, Jr., and currently, Ritzi Villarico Ronquillo.
The new top awards are initiated by its newly-elected Board of Trustees: Elpi Cuna of San Miguel Corp., chairman; Chit Arce of GMA Network, president; Ritzi Villarico Ronquillo, communication and PR consultant, vice president; Sherryl Yao of ABC Development Corp. TV5, secretary; Jeff Tarayao of Globe Telecom, treasurer; Kane Errol Choa of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., auditor; trustees Owen Cammayo of IBM Philippines, Rosan Cruz of Lopez Holdings Corp., Joe Zaldarriaga of Meralco, Claire Papa of Unilab, and Chito Macapagal of Unilever Philippines; and immediate past president Rey Anthony David, Jr. as ex-oficio member. Presidential Communications Operations Office Sec. Herminio “Sonny” Coloma, Jr. led their oath taking last August 27.
The Philippine Quill Awards, the country’s most prestigious award for business communicators, puts locally based companies in competitive footing with those entering the global IABC Gold Quill Awards. In some 20 years, more than a dozen Philippine entries have won excellence and merit awards in the competition, which draws more than 1,000 entries all over the world.
“The winners are outstanding examples of the relevance, innovativeness, and often game-changing role of communication in business, governance, and social responsibilities,” said IABC Philippines President Chit Arce, Corporate Affairs Consultant of GMA Network, Inc.
The Philippine Quill, which follows the judging and evaluation criteria and processes of the Gold Quill Awards, is a preparatory step toward winning the international awards.
IABC Philippines Immediate Past President and Great Wall Advertising President Rey Anthony David, Jr. notes, “The quality of the entries in the Gold Quill will simply astound any business leader, and every year, more Philippine entries are proving they could be as good as their international counterparts. From what I have experienced in international judging, I support that it is time our entries are shared more and more with the global community.”
To guide more communicators in preparing their Quill entries, IABC Philippines, in cooperation with Ayala MyCinema, will hold a Quill Clinic, “Excellent! Win a Quill,” a seminar on how to prepare a winning entry, on Thursday, September 9 from 1 to 5 pm, at MyCinema, Level 4 Greenbelt 3, Makati City.
Deadline for submission of entries for the Philippine Quill is on October 4.
Awarding ceremonies will be held on November 15 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila.
