LGFI’s Angela Lopez-GuingonaEnergy Development Corporation (EDC), in collaboration with the Lopez Group HR Council and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, celebrated Arbor Day at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City on June 25, 2016.
The tree-planting activity was attended by Lopez Group kapamilya who showed their support for EDC’s Binhi program and the Zero Hero initiative of the Lopez Group HR Council.
EDC Watershed Department manager Atty. Allan Barcena discussed the Binhi program and shared a bit of history behind the annual celebration of Arbor Day. The Philippines has observed Arbor Day, a holiday dedicated to planting trees, since 1947.
EDC Social Programs officer Niño Gibe briefed the guests on the proper way to plant trees in order to increase the chances of survival of the 70 seedlings (representing 13 indigenous species of trees).
Lopez Group Foundation Inc. Operations head Angela Lopez-Guingona introduced the Zero Hero program, saying that all it takes to be a Zero Hero is the willingness to make small changes in one’s everyday life.
Planting trees is one such activity. What makes it more special in the Lopez Group is the sense of unity and fulfillment that it gives to the participants because they are helping Mother Earth while sharing the experience with their families.
