The Lopez Group Comptrollers’ Circle celebrated its 19th anniversary and held its annual general assembly at ABS-CBN’s ELJ Communications Center in December 2018.
The activity aimed to update comptrollers and accounting, finance and treasury officers on current developments and relevant topics outside the technical sphere of accounting, tax and financial reporting. The aim was to assist the members in their personal, spiritual and physical development.
ABS-CBN Corporation chairman emeritus Eugenio Lopez III was guest of honor and inspirational speaker, while Lopez Holdings Corporation president and chief operating officer Salvador G. Tirona gave the welcome remarks.
Paolo Trinidad discussed laughter yoga as a form of stress reliever. Trinidad, the founder of Pinoy Laughter Yoga and the first certified laughter yoga instructor in the country, trained in India under Dr. Madan Kataria, the founder of Laughter Yoga International.
Work-life balance
Meanwhile, Ginny Villegas talked about image building and personality development. Villegas is a certified image consultant of Association of Image Consultants International and a certified corporate etiquette consultant. She is an educator, a visual artist, an expert on personal branding and an advocate of women development.
Kim Atienza, a television host, actor, weather anchor and former politician, focused his presentation on work-life balance.
The year-end conference was also attended by Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Metro Manila Region chairman and Punongbayan & Araullo managing partner Marivic Españo, and the group’s auditing firm SGV & Co. headed by Assurance head Ma. Vivian CruzRuiz together with other partners and officers.
During the Christmas fellowship, winners of “It’s Showtime’s” “Tawag ng Tanghalan” rendered song numbers to the pleasure of the participants. The invocation and recitation of the Lopez Credo was led by Mina Ubaña of First Philippine Holdings Corporation and First Gen Corporation and, as in previous assemblies, Jei-Jei Gertes ably acted as emcee of the event.
PICPA awardee
In November, the Comptrollers’ Circle participated in the 73rd Annual National Convention of PICPA at the SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City. The convention was attended by about 5,000 CPAs.
Gertes, one of the group’s core team members, was again among the 2018 PICPA national awardees as Outstanding PICPA Member, with Noe Quiñanola, chairman of the Professional Regulation Commission’s Board of Accountancy, as co-awardee.
The Lopez Group Comptrollers’ Circle continuously aims to maintain high-quality financial reporting and to promote work-life balance among its members. The Comptrollers’ Circle core team is composed of Ubaña, Gertes, Jingle Hernandez, Lanie Caimol and Aldrin Cerrado.
