Business reporters from the country’s top dailies and publications got a respite from their busy schedules at the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) Wellness Fair 2015 at theAlmost a hundred EJAP members and their companions were treated to free flu vaccine shots, eye checkups, spa services, makeover sessions, Wenga and yoga demonstrations and a talk from a wellness expert in the event organized by the Lopez Group.
In her opening remarks, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc. managing director Gina Lopez revealed her secret to being fit and healthy.
“The important thing in wellness is happiness…sleep well, eat well, don’t think too much of problems,” said Lopez, who encouraged the use of virgin coconut oil and herbs over synthetic medicine.
Meanwhile, Dr. Edward Bien, also a supporter of organic health products, busted diet myths and fads, warning the attendees against diet programs that promise rapid weight loss. He also emphasized the importance of activity and exercise in achieving one’s ideal weight.
Reporters immediately got a taste of the healthy lifestyle courtesy of vegetarian restaurant Pipino, which served lunch and merienda; workouts with coaches Trini and Kim of the Rockwell Club; the booths of G-Stuff, ABS-CBN TVplus and ABS-CBNmobile; and free services from Emphasis Salon, Spa Works, SKYcable, Unilab and Asian Eye Institute.
The journalists were spotted at the SKYcable lounge and the photo booth area; they were also active in social media, tweeting about the event using the free Wi-Fi provided by SKYbroadband.
The attendees brought home dozens of prizes from the raffle draws. The big winners were Iris Gonzales and Lorenz Marasigan, who each won an iPad Air from First Philippine Holdings, and Myla Iglesias, who went home with a 48” Samsung LED TV from Lopez Holdings Corporation.
EJAP president Paolo Montecillo expressed his gratitude to the Lopez Group for staging such an event.
“What they’re doing is fantastic… When you have deadlines, you forget to eat or if you eat at all, you get a quick meal, usually fast food… Since our schedules are irregular and tight, it’s also hard to maintain a healthy exercise habit or to plan meals,” he explained.
With the success of the third staging or the EJAP Wellness Fair, business reporters can expect another great event next year
