ABS-CBN mourns the passing of Bong Osorio, the former head of its corporate communications division (CCD), who died aged 66 on April 30, 2020.
Osorio was a veteran advertising and PR executive who had put in some 30 years with the country’s top ad agencies, including J. Walter Thompson, Ace Saatchi, DYR Alcantara and Campaigns Inc.
He came to ABS-CBN in 2007 to head the CCD. In an interview with “LopezLink” prior to his retirement, Osorio described his job as PR and spokesperson of ABSCBN: “For almost seven years, my face and name have been attached to every ABSCBN press statement. It was an extremely challenging job, and got me in trouble sometimes, but every single day didn’t feel like the last one and I loved that part of my job.”
Osorio had served in the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas Standards Authority, the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines and the Manila Overseas Press Club. He was past president of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines and the Public Relations Society of the Philippines. He was also IABC regional director for Asia Pacific and was named regional council member for Asia Pacific by the Global Alliance of Public Relations and Communications Management in 2019.
He was the former chair of the communication arts department of the University of Santo Tomas, where he had taught communication, advertising and PR subjects. The university had conferred on Osorio The Tomasian Alumni Award in 2003.
Aside from serving as communications and PR consultant for ABS-CBN, Osorio wrote a long-running column, “Commonness,” in “The Philippine Star.”
