‘La Barca de Aqueronte’ by Félix Resurrección Hidalgo“The Patrimony of All: Ang Panublion Sang Tanan” showcases a significant innovation in conservation technology.
The Roberto M. Lopez Conservation Center adapted a microclimate framing system designed to maintain the ideal conditions for the paintings. This system enables artworks to travel safely to museums that may not share the same environmental conditions as their place of origin. This innovation has a far-reaching impact because it expands the tools available to Filipino museums, enabling them to exchange artworks across regions while preserving their integrity. This will hopefully encourage greater collaboration among institutions and facilitate the sharing of cultural treasures.
Furthermore, the microclimate system promotes a more sustainable approach to museum practices. By eliminating the need for the borrowing institutions to install costly and energyintensive HVAC systems to match the exact climatic conditions of the lending institution, it helps reduce the environmental footprint of such exhibitions. In this way, the Lopez Museum’s conservation efforts take a step toward more ecoconscious and sustainable museum practices.
