ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc. (ALKFI), through its Bantay Kalikasan (BK) program, recently partnered with the local government of Basey to preserve and promote Sohoton Caves and Balintak Falls in the area.

These natural attractions, located in Brgy. Inuntan and Brgy. Rawis, respectively, are identified as protected areas under the Samar Island Natural Park-Protected Area Management Board. ALKFI, among others, will promote them as tourism destinations and put together livelihood programs for the victims of typhoon Yolanda even as it continues to distribute relief goods.

The local government unit, headed by Mayor Igmedio Ponferrada, will assist in developing the area into an ecotourism site. ALKFI also assigned a patrol boat and pledged to provide training in patrolling the sea in order to protect marine biodiversity from dynamite and other forms of illegal fishing.

This endeavor is one of the many projects of BK’s Green Initiative movement that aims to nurture and protect the environment with pathways that ultimately benefit the communities living in the area. (Ana Terrese Junio)
