For the first time, child development workers and teachers (CDW/Ts) are in the spotlight for this year’s National Teachers’ Month (NTM) celebration. As part of the NTM coordinating council, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) is proud to honor and empower CDW/Ts, along with basic education teachers, through new opportunities that build their skills and broaden their impact on early childhood care and education.1 KCF

KCFI invites CDW/Ts, parents and caregivers nationwide to its free early childhood development (ECD) online conference on Sept. 20, which will tackle two vital topics on children’s growth and learning. The first topic, focusing on the neuroscience behind nutrition, early learning and technology, will explore how the first 1,000 days of a child’s life lay the foundation for brain development. The second topic, on developmentally appropriate media, will equip participants with practical strategies for making smarter media choices.

For basic education teachers and parents, KCFI will hold its “Knowledge Matters” online conference on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4. Both sessions are also free and will grant Continuing Professional Development points to K-12 teachers who register and participate.

Throughout NTM, KCFI continues the implementation of “Kayang-Kaya Para Sa Bata,” a certificate program for the upskilling of 49 CDWs in Baras, Rizal, launched in July. “Kayang-Kaya Para Sa Bata” is made possible by the Rotary Global Grant #2457741 through the Rotary Club of Makati Premier District, Rotary District 3830, Rotary Club of Cheonan Dongho and Rotary District 3620 in partnership with KCFI, the UP Department of Family Life and Child Development, the Early Childhood Care and Development Council and the municipality of Baras.

Aside from the free online conferences and teacher training programs, KCFI continues its search for the “Gurong May K”: Best Teacher of Knowledge Channel Awards, which recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers and CDW/Ts who effectively use Knowledge Channel videos in their instruction.
