THE Shang Grand Tower, Dyna Drug Corporation and Valero Grand Suites by SwissBelhotel have forged partnerships with First Gen Corporation to power their buildings with clean and renewable energy (RE).

Under the agreement between First Gen and The Shang Grand Tower, the former would transition all common areas of the 46-storey tower to geothermal power from the Unified Leyte Geothermal Power Plant.

“We are pleased to partner with First Gen in advancing our goal of powering The Shang Grand Tower with renewable energy. This initiative not only helps reduce our carbon footprint but also supports more efficient management of our electricity costs. We are optimistic that this partnership will lead to deeper collaboration and create more opportunities that translate into greener living for our residents,” said Joseph Salting, head for property management.

The Shang Grand Tower features 254 residential units and is one of the most coveted luxury residential properties in Makati.

“The Shang Grand Tower set the bar for luxury condominium living and we are privileged to support their RE transition. Geothermal power can support larger power demand consistently and continuously, ideal for developments where 24/7 power is a must. We look forward to continuing to work with The Shang Grand Tower team in their decarbonization journey,” said Carlo Vega, chief customer engagement officer of First Gen.

First Gen will also supply at least 145 kilowatts of geothermal energy to support the logistics, storage and distribution operations of Dyna Drug’s state-of-the-art facilities in Pasig and Quezon City. The RE will be sourced from the Bacon-Manito geothermal power plant in Bicol owned and operated by its subsidiary, Energy Development Corpo
ration (EDC).

“Their strong commitment to sustainability aligns perfectly with Dyna’s DNA of values and goals. Transitioning to more sustainable solutions for our operations and minimize our environmental footprint is our bold vision with tangible actions to improve the ecosystem,” said Dyna Drug president Jacinto Dy

“It is our privilege to support Dyna Drug in achieving their sustainability goals. The sensitive nature of the products they handle requires stable supply of 24/7 RE for its warehouse operations, which geothermal power is well-suited for. We are committed to deepening our partnership with Dyna Drug as they continue their decarbonization journey,” said Vega.

Meanwhile, Valero Grand Suites and First Gen officials signed an agreement for supply of electricity also from the geothermal plant in Bicol.

With the agreement, Valero Grand Suites has become one of the first hotels in the Makati central business district to transition to RE under the government’s Green Energy Option Program. It joins a growing community of hospitality and business establishments committed to advancing sustainable energy use across the Philippines.
