This holiday season, the gifts we give can carry deeper meaning. 7

Beyond beauty and function, they can tell stories, honor heritage and uplift communities working toward a better future.

A handcrafted gift, rooted in culture and shaped by the hands of its makers, reminds us that giving can be a thing of beauty and an act of meaning.

A platform for purpose

Lopez Group Foundation Inc. (LGFI) has launched an online catalog featuring livelihood products made by partner communities supported by Lopez Group companies and foundations.

The collection spans woven handicrafts, locally grown coffee and publications that celebrate Philippine art and heritage. Each product embodies skill, resilience and shared progress, proof that creativity and purpose can thrive together.

More than a digital marketplace, the catalog is a collective expression of partnership. It brings together communities that champion sustainability, ingenuity and Filipino pride.

A platform for good

In a world of mass-produced goods, the catalog invites us to rediscover the value of things made by hand and with heart. It promotes conscious consumption, where every purchase supports a livelihood and preserves a culture.

Each item reflects both creative excellence and social impact. Every purchase becomes a choice to give gifts that not only look good but also do good.

True to the Lopez value of service to the Filipino, the Group views these collaborations as shared missions. For decades, Lopez Group members have worked hand in hand with partner communities to design, refine traditional embroidery techniques such as panubok (Panay Bukidnon stitching) and habon (Iloilo handloom weaving).

Their collection includes everything from elegant centerpiece baskets to storage canisters.

In Jabonga, Agusan del Norte, the Maraiging Mamanwa Farmers Skilled Workers Association (MAMAFASWAS) has been weaving a brighter future since 2022.

Using locally sourced buri, Mamanwa artisans craft vibrant bags that reflect their heritage, artistry and resilience.

This community-based enterprise supported by First Gen’s livelihood program empowers the Mamanwas through sustainable craftsmanship and strengthens their community ties.

In Dauin, Negros Oriental, the Baslay Highland Agriculture Cooperative (BASHACO) has transformed former kaingeros (slash-and-burn farmers) into stewards of the forest.

With support from Energy Development Corporation (EDC), they now cultivate a thriving coffee enterprise that combines sustainable farming with community development.

Their journey has earned recognition from the United Nations Development Programme and Philippine Business for the Environment, proving that enterprise can align with the Sustainable Development Goals while creating lasting local impact.

Their “Plushies for Wildlife Conservation” project turns sewing skills into a force for environmental education and livelihood support.

As of today, they have created two plushies: Kali, a golden-crowned flying fox, and Diwa, an Apo myna.

Both species are endemic to the Philippines and symbolize the community’s commitment to wildlife conservation and local pride.

The Bacman Host Communities Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BMPC) in Sorsogon City is another success story.

Through EDC’s BINHI Flagship Species Initiative, the cooperative produces charming plush toys that raise awareness of the country’s threatened flora and fauna.

The Lopez Museum and Library (LML) offers a distinguished collection of publications that chronicle Philippine art, culture and natural history.

The collection includes monographs on artists like Vicente Manansala, Fernando Zóbel and Juvenal Sansó as well as historical studies on Félix Resurrección Hidalgo and the revolutionary generation of 1872. Beyond art, the books explore cultural artifacts and biodiversity, featuring landmark titles such as “Orchidiana Philippiniana” and the “Philippine Native Trees” series.

These works preserve the nation’s artistic, intellectual and ecological legacy.

A platform for legacy

The online catalog is part of LGFI’s broader mission to synergize and amplify the CSR efforts of Lopez Group members, transforming individual projects into a collective movement for inclusive growth, distinct parts moving as one.

It reflects the Lopez legacy of nation-building, grounded in empathy, service and sustainability. By choosing locally made products, we help empower communities, protect culture and nurture the planet, one meaningful purchase at a time.

As the season of giving draws near, may we choose gifts that resonate with both beauty and purpose, handmade with heart and carrying stories of resilience, creativity and hope.

Support a sustainable livelihood today and gift someone the joy of giving back.
