FIRST Gen-Energy Development Corporation (EDC) was awarded a certificate of recognition by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Leyte Provincial Science and Technology Office for its stead fast support and partnership in advancing science, technology and innovation initiatives in the province.

The certificate of recognition was formally conferred on Dec. 17, 2025, during a ceremony held at Hotel Alejandro in Tacloban City. The award was received by Ma. Sybil Villegas and Sheryl Ara Cortez from First Gen- EDC’s Leyte corporate relations department. The certificate was signed by Mhardy Montejo, provincial science and technology director of DOST Leyte.

The award was given in connection with First Gen-EDC’s partnership with DOST under the Grant-In-Aid or GIA program, particularly for its support to the coffee and cacao production project of the Tongonan Farmers Organization Association (TOFA), which has provided resources and guidance that strengthen TOFA’s inititives, creating tangible benefits for farmers and their families.

TOFA is a community based group of coffee and cacao farmers in Leyte dedicated to improving agricultural productivity and livelihoods in the region. Through technical assistance, training and sustainable farming practices, TOFA empowers its members to enhance the quality and quantity of their produce, contributing to both economic growth and community development. Their coffee processing facility in Brgy. Tongonan, Ormoc City, was established through a col laborative initiative by First Gen-EDC, DOST Region 8, the city government of Ormoc and the Brgy. Tongonan local government unit.

The recognition affirms First Gen-EDC’s commitment to forging collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future, anchored on trusted partnerships with government agencies, local communities and public and private organizations that support inclusive, community-driven growth.
